أَخْبَرَنَا عَبْدَةُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللهِ أَخْبَرَنَا سُوَيْدٌ عَنْ زُهَيْرٍ حَدَّثَنَا بَيَانٌ أَنَّ وَبَرَةَ حَدَّثَهُ سَعِيدُ بْنُ جُبَيْرٍ أَنَّ رَجُلًا قَالَ لِعَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ عُمَرَ يَا أَبَا عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ كَيْفَ تَرَى فِي الْقِتَالِ فِي الْفِتْنَةِ؟ قَالَ

«وَهَلْ تَدْرِي مَا الْفِتْنَةُ؟ ثَكِلَتْكَ أُمُّكَ كَانَ مُحَمَّدٌ ﷺ يُقَاتِلُ الْمُشْرِكِينَ وَكَانَ الدُّخُولُ فِيهِمْ فِتْنَةً وَلَيْسَ قِتَالُكُمْ إِلَّا عَلَى الْمُلْكِ»

✧ "Do you know what the trial is? May your mother be bereaved of you! Muhammad ﷺ was fighting the polytheists, and entering among them was a trial. Your fighting is only for sovereignty."
