أَخْبَرَنَا عَمْرُو بْنُ عُثْمَانَ بْنِ سَعِيدٍ عَنِ الْوَلِيدِ عَنِ الْأَوْزَاعِيِّ عَنْ يَحْيَى عَنْ أَبِي قِلَابَةَ عَنْ أَنَسٍ

أَنَّ نَفَرًا مِنْ عُكْلٍ قَدِمُوا عَلَى رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ فَأَسْلَمُوا وَاجْتَوَوَا الْمَدِينَةَ فَأَمَرَهُمُ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ أَنْ يَأْتُوا إِبِلَ الصَّدَقَةِ فَيَشْرَبُوا مِنْ أَبْوَالِهَا وَأَلْبَانِهَا فَقَتَلُوا رَاعِيَهَا وَاسْتَاقُوهَا فَبَعَثَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ فِي طَلَبِهِمْ قَافِلَةً فَأُتِيَ بِهِمْ فَقَطَعَ أَيْدِيَهُمْ وَأَرْجُلَهُمْ وَسَمَلَ أَعْيُنَهُمْ وَلَمْ يَحْسِمْهُمْ وَتَرَكَهُمْ حَتَّى مَاتُوا فَأَنْزَلَ اللهُ ﷻ {إِنَّمَا جَزَاءُ الَّذِينَ يُحَارِبُونَ اللهَ وَرَسُولَهُ} [المائدة 33] الْآيَةَ

✧ A group from 'Ukl came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, embraced Islam, and found the climate of Madinah unsuitable. The Prophet ﷺ ordered them to go to the camels of charity and drink from their urine and milk. They killed the herdsman and drove off the camels. The Prophet ﷺ sent a detachment in pursuit and they were brought back. He cut off their hands and feet, gouged out their eyes, did not cauterize them, and left them until they died. Then Allah ﷻ revealed: {The recompense of those who wage war against Allah and His Messenger} [al-Ma'idah: 33] the verse.
