Sūrat al-Nisāʾ

أَخْبَرَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ الْمُنْذِرِ عَنِ ابْنِ فُضَيْلٍ حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ سَعِيدٍ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ أَبِي أُمَامَةَ عَنْ أَبِيهِ قَالَ §لَمَّا تُوُفِّيَ أَبُو قَيْسِ بْنِ الْأَسْلَتِ أَرَادَ ابْنُهُ

أَنْ يَتَزَوَّجَ امْرَأَتَهُ مِنْ بَعْدِهِ فَكَانَ ذَلِكَ لَهُمْ فِي الْجَاهِلِيَّةِ فَأَنْزَلَ اللهُ ﷻ {لَا يَحِلُّ لَكُمْ أَنْ تَرِثُوا النِّسَاءَ كَرْهًا} [النساء 19]

Translation

✧ That a man should marry the wife of his father after him. That was their practice in the Jahiliyyah, so Allah, exalted is He, revealed: {It is not lawful for you to inherit women against their will} [An-Nisa: 19].
