أَخْبَرَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ حُجْرٍ أَخْبَرَنَا إِسْمَاعِيلُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ عَنْ حُمَيْدٍ عَنْ أَنَسٍ وَأَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْمُثَنَّى عَنْ خَالِدٍ حَدَّثَنَا حُمَيْدٌ قَالَ

قَالَ أَنَسٌ كُسِرَتْ رَبَاعِيَةُ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ يَوْمَ أُحُدٍ وَشُجَّ فَجَعَلَ الدَّمُ يَسِيلُ عَلَى وَجْهِهِ وَمَسَحَ الدَّمَ عَنْ وَجْهِهِ وَيَقُولُ «كَيْفَ يُفْلِحُ قَوْمٌ خَضَبُوا وَجْهَ نَبِيِّهِمْ وَهُوَ يَدْعُوهُمْ إِلَى الْإِسْلَامِ؟» فَأَنْزَلَ اللهُ تَبَارَكَ وَتَعَالَى {لَيْسَ لَكَ مِنَ الْأَمْرِ شَيْءٌ أَوْ يَتُوبَ عَلَيْهِمْ أَوْ يُعَذِّبَهُمْ فَإِنَّهُمْ ظَالِمُونَ} [آل عمران 128] اللَّفْظُ لِخَالِدٍ

Translation

✧ Anas said: The front tooth of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ was broken on the Day of Uhud, and he was wounded on the head. Blood began to flow over his face, and he wiped the blood from his face saying: "How can a people succeed who have stained the face of their Prophet while he is calling them to Islam?" Then Allah, blessed and exalted is He, revealed: {Not for you is the decision, whether He turns to them or punishes them; for they are wrongdoers} [Al Imran: 128]. The wording is Khalid's.
