أَخْبَرَنَا الْهَيْثَمُ بْنُ أَيُّوبَ حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ زَكَرِيَّا عَنِ الْأَعْمَشِ عَنْ شَقِيقٍ قَالَ عَبْدُ اللهِ

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ مَنْ حَلَفَ عَلَى يَمِينٍ يَقْطَعُ بِهَا مَالًا لَقِيَ اللهَ وَهُوَ عَلَيْهِ غَضْبَانُ وَتَصْدِيقُهُ فِي كِتَابِ اللهِ {إِنَّ الَّذِينَ يَشْتَرُونَ بِعَهْدِ اللهِ وَأَيْمَانِهِمْ ثَمَنًا قَلِيلًا أُولَئِكَ لَا خَلَاقَ لَهُمْ فِي الْآخِرَةِ} [آل عمران 77] فَجَاءَ الْأَشْعَثُ بْنُ قَيْسٍ فَقَالَ مَا يُحَدِّثُكُمْ أَبُو عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ؟ فَقُلْنَا كَذَا وَكَذَا فَقَالَ وَاللهِ لَأُنْزِلَتْ فِيَّ وَفِي فُلَانٍ كَانَتْ بَيْنِي وَبَيْنَهُ خُصُومَةٌ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «شُهُودَكَ أَوْ يَمِينَهُ» قُلْتُ إِذَنْ يَحْلِفُ قَالَ «مَنْ حَلَفَ عَلَى يَمِينٍ يَقْطَعُ بِهَا مَالًا وَهُوَ فِيهَا كَاذِبٌ لَقِيَ اللهَ وَهُوَ عَلَيْهِ غَضْبَانُ» وَأَنْزَلَ اللهُ ﷻ الْآيَةَ

Translation

✧ The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'Whoever swears an oath by which he cuts off property, he will meet Allah while He is angry with him.' And its confirmation is in the Book of Allah: {Indeed, those who purchase with the covenant of Allah and their oaths a small price, those will have no share in the Hereafter} [Āli ʿImrān 77]. Then al-Ashʿath b. Qays came and said: 'What is Abū ʿAbd al-Raḥmān narrating to you?' We said: 'Such and such.' He said: 'By Allah, it was revealed about me and so-and-so. There was a dispute between me and him, and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "Your witnesses or his oath." I said: "Then he will swear." He said: "Whoever swears an oath by which he cuts off property while he is lying in it, he will meet Allah while He is angry with him." And Allah ﷻ revealed the verse.'
