أَخْبَرَنَا عَمْرُو بْنُ عَلِيٍّ عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ مَهْدِيٍّ عَنْ خَالِدِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللهِ عَنْ بَيَانٍ عَنْ وَبَرَةَ عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ جُبَيْرٍ قَالَ خَرَجَ إِلَيْنَا ابْنُ عُمَرَ وَنَحْنُ نَرْجُو أَنْ يُحَدِّثَنَا حَدِيثًا عَجِيبًا فَبَدَرَ إِلَيْهِ رَجُلٌ بِالْمَسْأَلَةِ فَقَالَ

يَا أَبَا عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ مَا يَمْنَعُكَ مِنَ الْقِتَالِ وَاللهُ تَعَالَى يَقُولُ {وَقَاتِلُوهُمْ حَتَّى لَا تَكُونَ فِتْنَةٌ} [البقرة 193] قَالَ ثَكِلَتْكَ أُمُّكَ أَتَدْرِي مَا الْفِتْنَةُ إِنَّمَا كَانَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ يُقَاتِلُ الْمُشْرِكِينَ وَكَانَ الدُّخُولُ فِي دِينِهُمْ فِتْنَةٌ وَلَيْسَ يُقَاتِلُهُمْ عَلَى الْمُلْكِ

✧ O Abu Abd al-Rahman, what prevents you from fighting while God, exalted is He, says {And fight them until there is no more persecution} [al-Baqarah: 193]? He said: May your mother be bereaved of you! Do you know what persecution is? The Messenger of God ﷺ was fighting the polytheists, and entering into their religion was persecution; he was not fighting them for kingship.
