أَخْبَرَنَا عَمْرُو بْنُ عَلِيٍّ حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ عَنْ حَبِيبٍ عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ جُبَيْرٍ عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ قَالَ

قَالَ عُمَرُ أَقْرَؤُنَا أُبَيٌّ وَأَقْضَانَا عَلِيٌّ وَإِنَّا لَنَدَعُ مِنْ قَوْلِ أُبَيٍّ وَذَلِكَ أَنَّهُ يَقُولُ لَا أَدَعُ شَيْئًا سَمِعْتُهُ مِنْ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ وَقَدْ قَالَ اللهُ ﷻ «مَا نَنْسَخْ مِنْ آيَةٍ أَوْ نَنْسَأْهَا نَأْتِ بِخَيْرٍ مِنْهَا أَوْ مَثَلِهَا»

✧ Umar said: The best reciter among us is Ubayy, and the best judge among us is Ali, but we leave some of what Ubayy says. That is because he says: I will not leave anything I heard from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, while Allah, mighty and sublime, has said: {Whatever verse We abrogate or cause to be forgotten, We bring one better than it or similar to it}.
