أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْمُثَنَّى قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا سَالِمُ بْنُ نُوحٍ قَالَ سَعِيدُ بْنُ أَبِي عَرُوبَةَ أَخْبَرَنَا قَتَادَةُ عَنْ أَنَسٍ
أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ دَخَلَ عَلَى رَجُلٍ يَعُودُهُ فَإِذَا هُوَ كَأَنَّهُ هَامَةٌ فَقَالَ لَهُ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ «هَلْ سَأَلْتَ رَبَّكَ مِنْ شَيْءٍ؟» قَالَ نَعَمْ قُلْتُ اللهُمَّ مَا أَنْتَ مُعَاقِبِي بِهِ فِي الْآخِرَةِ فَعَجِّلْهُ لِي فِي الدُّنْيَا فَقَالَ سُبْحَانَ اللهِ أَلَا قُلْتَ {رَبَّنَا آتِنَا} [البقرة 201] فِي الدُّنْيَا حَسَنَةً وَفِي الْآخِرَةِ حَسَنَةً فَقَالَهَا الرَّجُلُ فَعُوفِيَ
Translation

✧ The Prophet ﷺ entered upon a man to visit him during his illness, and the man was as if he were a ghost. The Prophet ﷺ said to him, "Did you ask your Lord for anything?" He replied, "Yes. I said: O Allah, whatever punishment You would inflict on me in the Hereafter, hasten it for me in this world." The Prophet ﷺ said, "Glory be to Allah! Why did you not say: Our Lord, give us in this world good and in the Hereafter good [al-Baqarah 201]?" The man then said it, and he was healed.
