أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو دَاوُدَ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا الْحَسَنُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا زُهَيْرٌ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو إِسْحَاقَ عَنْ مُصْعَبِ بْنِ سَعْدٍ عَنْ أَبِيهِ قَالَ
كُنَّا نَذْكُرُ بَعْضَ الْأَمْرِ وَأَنَا حَدِيثُ عَهْدٍ بِالْجَاهِلِيَّةِ فَحَلَفْتُ بِاللَّاتِ وَالْعُزَّى فَقَالَ لِي أَصْحَابُ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ بِئْسَمَا قُلْتَ ائْتِ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ فَأَخْبِرْهُ فَإِنَّا لَا نَرَاكَ إِلَّا كَفَرْتَ فَلَقِيتُهُ فَأَخْبَرْتُهُ فَقَالَ «قُلْ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللهُ وَحْدَهُ لَا شَرِيكَ لَهُ ثَلَاثَ مَرَّاتٍ وَتَعَوَّذْ بِاللهِ مِنَ الشَّيْطَانِ ثَلَاثَ مَرَّاتٍ وَاتْفِلْ عَنْ يَسَارِكَ ثَلَاثَ مَرَّاتٍ وَلَا تَعُدْ لَهُ»

✧ We were mentioning some matter while I was recently out of the pre-Islamic era, so I swore by al-Lat and al-Uzza. The Companions of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to me: 'How bad is what you said! Go to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and inform him, for we see you as having disbelieved.' So I met him and informed him, and he said: 'Say: There is no god but Allah alone, with no partner, three times. And seek refuge in Allah from Satan three times, and spit to your left three times, and do not repeat it.'
