أَخْبَرَنَا مَحْمُودُ بْنُ غَيْلَانَ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا عُثْمَانُ بْنُ عُمَرَ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ عَنْ أَبِي جَعْفَرٍ عَنْ عُمَارَةَ بْنِ خُزَيْمَةَ بْنِ ثَابِتٍ عَنْ عُثْمَانَ بْنِ حُنَيْفٍ
أَنَّ رَجُلًا ضَرِيرَ الْبَصَرِ أَتَى النَّبِيَّ ﷺ فَقَالَ ادْعُ اللهَ تَعَالَى أَنْ يُعَافِيَنِي قَالَ «إِنْ شِئْتَ دَعَوْتُ وَإِنْ شِئْتَ صَبَرْتَ فَهُوَ خَيْرٌ لَكَ» قَالَ فَادْعُهُ فَأَمَرَهُ أَنْ يَتَوَضَّأَ فَيُحْسِنَ وُضُوءَهُ وَيَدْعُوَ بِهَذَا الدُّعَاءِ «اللهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْأَلُكَ وَأَتَوَجَّهُ إِلَيْكَ بِنَبِيِّكَ مُحَمَّدٍ نَبِيِّ الرَّحْمَةِ إِنِّي تَوَجَّهْتُ بِكَ إِلَى رَبِّي فِي حَاجَتِي هَذِهِ فَتَقْضِي لِي اللهُمَّ شَفِّعْهُ فِيَّ» [245] خَالَفَهُمَا هِشَامٌ الدَّسْتُوَائِيُّ وَرُوحُ بْنُ الْقَاسِمِ فَقَالَا عَنْ أَبِي جَعْفَرٍ عُمَيْرِ بْنِ يَزِيدَ بْنِ خِرَاشَةَ عَنْ أَبِي أُمَامَةَ بْنِ سَهْلٍ عَنْ عُثْمَانَ بْنِ حُنَيْفٍ

✧ A man with impaired vision came to the Prophet ﷺ and said: “Pray to Allah, the Exalted, to heal me.” He said: “If you wish, I will pray, and if you wish, you may be patient, and that is better for you.” He said: “Then pray to Him.” He ordered him to perform ablution and do it well, and to supplicate with this supplication: “O Allah, I ask You and turn to You through Your Prophet Muhammad, the Prophet of mercy. I have turned through you to my Lord concerning this need of mine, so that You may fulfill it for me. O Allah, let him intercede for me.” [245] Hisham al-Dastawa'i and Ruh b. al-Qasim disagreed with the two of them, saying: From Abu Ja'far 'Umayr b. Yazid b. Khirashah, from Abu Umamah b. Sahl, from 'Uthman b. Hunayf.
