أَخْبَرَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ سُلَيْمَانَ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدُ بْنُ مَرْوَانَ الْأَزْدِيُّ مِنْ أَهْلِ الرُّهَا قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا عِصَامُ بْنُ بَشِيرٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنِي أَبِي
أَنَّ بَنِي الْحَارِثِ بْنِ كَعْبٍ وَفَّدُوهُ إِلَى رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ قَالَ فَدَخَلْتُ عَلَى النَّبِيِّ ﷺ فَسَلَّمْتُ عَلَيْهِ فَقَالَ «مَرْحَبًا وَعَلَيْكَ السَّلَامُ مِنْ أَيْنَ أَقْبَلْتَ؟» فَقُلْتُ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ بِأَبِي أَنْتَ وَأُمِّي بَنُو الْحَارِثِ وَفَّدُونِي إِلَيْكَ بِالْإِسْلَامِ فَقَالَ «مَرْحَبًا بِكَ مَا اسْمُكَ؟» قُلْتُ اسْمِي أَكْبَرُ قَالَ «بَلْ أَنْتَ بَشِيرٌ» فَسَمَّاهُ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ بَشِيرًا

✧ The Banu al-Harith b. Ka'b delegated him to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. He said: I entered upon the Prophet ﷺ, greeted him, and he said: "Welcome, and peace be upon you. From where have you come?" I said: O Messenger of Allah, may my father and mother be your ransom, the Banu al-Harith have delegated me to you with Islam. He said: "Welcome to you. What is your name?" I said: My name is Akbar. He said: "Rather, you are Bashir." So the Prophet ﷺ named him Bashir.
