أَخْبَرَنَا عَمْرُو بْنُ عَلِيٍّ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ سَعِيدٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا جَابِرُ بْنُ صُبْحٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنِي مَثْنَى بْنُ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ الْخُزَاعِيُّ قَالَ
حَدَّثَنَا أُمَيَّةُ بْنُ مَخْشِيٍّ وَكَانَ مِنْ أَصْحَابِ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ رَأَى رَجُلًا يَأْكُلُ وَلَمْ يُسَمِّ فَلَمَّا كَانَ فِي آخِرِ لُقْمَةٍ قَالَ بِسْمِ اللهِ أَوَّلَهُ وَآخِرَهُ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «مَا زَالَ الشَّيْطَانُ يَأْكُلُ مَعَهُ فَلَمَّا سَمَّى قَاءَ الشَّيْطَانُ مَا أَكَلَ»

✧ Umayyah b. Makhshi, who was one of the Companions of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, narrated to us that the Prophet ﷺ saw a man eating without pronouncing the name of Allah. When he reached the last morsel, he said, "In the name of Allah, at its beginning and at its end." The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "The devil kept eating with him, but when he pronounced the name, the devil vomited what he had eaten."
