Translation

that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "If I was going to appoint anyone of them as a leader without any consultation, I would appoint Ibn Umm 'Abd over them."

  machine translationHe said: It was narrated by Manṣūr b. al-Muʿtamir and Sufyān al-Thawrī from Abū Isḥāq. There is disagreement concerning Manṣūr: al-Qāsim b. Maʿn narrated it from Manṣūr, from Abū Isḥāq, from ʿĀṣim, from ʿAlī. And it was said: from Abū Isḥāq, from Ḥārithah b. Muḍarrib, from ʿAlī. Zuhayr differed from him and narrated it from Abū Isḥāq, from al-Ḥārith, from ʿAlī. Likewise al-Thawrī narrated it from Abū Isḥāq, from al-Ḥārith, from ʿAlī. And we do not know anyone other than the two of them who narrated it from Abū Isḥāq in this way. Mālik b. Mighwal narrated it from Abū Isḥāq as a mursal report from the Prophet ﷺ.
