What scholars said about it

In their own words, as Hadith Unlocked records them. They are shown, not summarised into a grade.

  • Abū Ḥatim al-Rāzī

machine translationShuʿbah and al-Thawrī differed regarding the chain of this report. Al-Thawrī said: from Sālim, from Jābān, from Ibn ʿAmr. Shuʿbah said: from Sālim, from Nubayṭ, from Jābān. Both are meticulous (mutqin) memorizers (ḥāfiẓ), except that al-Thawrī was more knowledgeable about the hadiths of the people of his own town than Shuʿbah and a better memorizer of them than him, especially the hadiths of al-Aʿmash, Abū Isḥāq and Manṣūr. So the report is connected (muttaṣil) from Sālim, from Jābān; he heard it from him, and he also heard it from Nubayṭ, from Jābān. At one time he narrated it as Shuʿbah said, and at another as Sufyān said.

  • al-Bukhari

machine translationNo hearing (samāʿ) from ʿAbdullāh is known for Jābān, nor from Jābān for Sālim, nor for Nubayṭ.

    in سنن النسائي, p. 5687
  • al-Bukhari

machine translationNo hearing (samāʿ) from ʿAbdullāh is known for Jābān, nor from Jābān for Sālim, nor for Nubayṭ. It is not authentic (lam yaṣiḥ).

    in سنن النسائي, p. 5687
