machine translationZayd b. Aslam narrated it. Al-Darāwardī, ʿAbd al-ʿAzīz b. Muḥammad, narrated it from Zayd b. Aslam, from his father, that ʿUmar came upon Abū Bakr while he was holding his tongue. He said: "This is what has brought me to the places of destruction. I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say: 'Every limb complains to Allah about the tongue on its own.'" ʿAbd al-Ṣamad b. ʿAbd al-Wārith said that from al-Darāwardī, from Zayd b. Aslam, from his father, but he erred in it on al-Darāwardī. The correct report from him is: from Zayd b. Aslam, from his father, that ʿUmar came upon Abū Bakr while he was holding his tongue, and said: "This is what has brought me to the places of destruction." Al-Darāwardī also said, from Zayd b. Aslam, that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "Every limb complains." Hishām b. Saʿd, Muḥammad b. ʿAjlān and others narrated it from Zayd b. Aslam, from his father, that ʿUmar entered upon Abū Bakr, like the wording of al-Darāwardī, and they did not mention the raised part (marfūʿ) to the Prophet ﷺ, neither as a mursal nor as a musnad report. Sufyān al-Thawrī narrated it from Zayd b. Aslam, from his father, from Abū Bakr, without mentioning ʿUmar in it, and said in it that Aslam said: "I saw Abū Bakr." It is said that this is an error on the part of al-Thawrī. Saʿīr b. al-Khims narrated it from Zayd b. Aslam as a mursal report, from ʿUmar, from Abū Bakr, without saying in it "from Aslam." The sound version of this is what Ibn ʿAjlān and Hishām b. Saʿd and those who followed them said.
