machine translationIt is a hadith that Saʿd b. Ibrāhīm narrates from ʿUbaydullāh b. ʿAbdullāh b. ʿUtbah, from Ibn ʿAbbās, from ʿAbd al-Raḥmān b. ʿAwf, from ʿUmar. Shuʿbah narrated it from him in this way. Al-Zuhrī also narrated it from ʿUbaydullāh, and there is disagreement about it from him. Hushaym narrated it from al-Zuhrī, from ʿUbaydullāh, from Ibn ʿAbbās, from ʿAbd al-Raḥmān b. ʿAwf, from ʿUmar, similar to the statement of Saʿd b. Ibrāhīm from him, in abbreviated form. And it is narrated from Hushaym, from al-Zuhrī, the story of the Saqīfah in full, without mentioning ʿAbd al-Raḥmān b. ʿAwf in it. It was likewise narrated by ʿAbdullāh b. Abī Bakr b. Muḥammad b. ʿAmr b. Ḥazm, Mālik b. Anas, Yūnus, ʿUqayl, Maʿmar, Ṣāliḥ b. Kaysān, Ibn Jurayj, Ibn ʿUyaynah and others, from al-Zuhrī, from ʿUbaydullāh, from Ibn ʿAbbās, from ʿUmar. Some of them narrated the story of the Saqīfah in full and some abbreviated it. Saʿīd b. Abī Hind narrated it from ʿUbaydullāh b. ʿAbdullāh that ʿUmar addressed the people, without mentioning Ibn ʿAbbās or ʿAbd al-Raḥmān b. ʿAwf in it, and he brought only the story of the stoning (rajm) without the rest of the hadith. The preserved (maḥfūẓ) version of this is what al-Zuhrī narrated, in the narration of Ṣāliḥ b. Kaysān, ʿAbdullāh b. Abī Bakr, Mālik b. Anas and those who followed them. And it is an authentic (ṣaḥīḥ) hadith through Shuʿbah, from Saʿd b. Ibrāhīm, from ʿUbaydullāh b. ʿAbdullāh.
