✧ The Description of the Resurrection

قَالَ الْحَارِثُ: حَدَّثَنَا هَوْذَةُ، ثَنَا عَوْفٌ، عَنْ أَبِي الْمِنْهَالِ، عَنْ شَهْرِ بْنِ حَوْشَبٍ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ ؓ، قَالَ:

إِذَا كَانَ يَوْمُ الْقِيَامَةِ مُدَّتِ الْأَرْضُ مَدَّ الْأَدِيمِ فِي سَعَتِهَا كَذَا وَكَذَا، وَجَمِيعُ الْخَلَائِقِ بِصَعِيدٍ وَاحِدٍ جِنِّهِمْ وِإِنْسِهِمْ، فَإِذَا كَانَ ذَلِكَ قُيِّضَتْ هَذِهِ السَّمَاءُ الدُّنْيَا عَنْ أَهْلِهَا، فَيُنْثَرُونَ عَلَى وَجْهِ الْأَرْضِ، فَلَأَهْلُ السَّمَاءِ وَحْدَهُمْ أَكْثَرُ مِنْ جَمِيعِ أَهْلِ الْأَرْضِ وِجِنِّهِمْ وَإِنْسِهِمْ بِالضِّعْفِ، فَإِذَا نُثِرُوا عَلَى وَجْهِ الْأَرْضِ، فَزِعَ إِلَيْهِمْ أَهْلُ الْأَرْضِ، وَقَالُوا: فِيكُمْ رَبُّنَا ؟ فَيَفْزَعُونَ مِنْ قَوْلِهِمْ، يَقُولُونَ: سُبْحَانَ رَبِّنَا لَيْسَ هُوَ فِينَا، وَهُوَ آتٍ، ثُمَّ يُقْبَضُ أَهْلُ السَّمَاءِ الثَّانِيَةِ، فَلَأَهْلُ السَّمَاءِ الثَّانِيَةِ وَحْدَهُمْ أَكْثَرُ مِنْ أَهْلِ السَّمَاءِ الدُّنْيَا، وَمِنْ جَمِيعِ أَهْلِ الْأَرْضِ بِالضِّعْفِ، فَإِذَا نُثِرُوا عَلَى أَهْلِ وَجْهِ الْأَرْضِ فَزِعَ إِلَيْهِمْ أَهْلُ الْأَرْضِ، وَقَالُوا: فِيكُمْ رَبُّنَا ؟ فَيَفْزَعُونَ مِنْ قَوْلِهِمْ، وَيَقُولُونَ: سُبْحَانَ رَبِّنَا لَيْسَ فِينَا، وَهُوَ آتٍ، ثُمَّ تُقَاضُ السَّمَاوَاتُ كُلُّهَا، فَتُضَعَّفُ كُلُّ سَمَاءٍ عَلَى السَّمَاءِ الَّتِي تَحْتَهَا وَجَمِيعِ أَهْلِ الْأَرْضِ، كُلَّمَا نُثِرُوا عَلَى وَجْهِ الْأَرْضِ، فَزِعَ إِلَيْهِمْ أَهْلُ الْأَرْضِ، وَيَقُولُونَ لَهُمْ مِثْلَ ذَلِكَ، وَيَرْجِعُونَ إِلَيْهِمْ مِثْلَ ذَلِكَ، ثُمَّ تُقَاضُ أَهْلُ السَّمَاوَاتِ السَّابِعَةِ، فَلَأَهْلُ السَّمَاءِ السَّابِعَةِ أَكْثَرُ أَهْلًا مِنَ السَّمَاوَاتِ السِّتِّ، وَمِنْ جَمِيعِ أَهْلِ الْأَرْضِ بِالضِّعْفِ، فَيَجِيءُ اللهُ تَبَارَكَ وَتَعَالَى فِيهِمْ، وَالْأُمَمُ جُثًا صُفُوفًا، فَيُنَادِي مُنَادٍ: سَتَعْلَمُونَ الْيَوْمَ مَنْ أَصْحَابُ الْكَرَمِ، لِيَقُمِ الْحَمَّادُونَ رَبَّهُمْ عَلَى كُلِّ حَالٍ، فَيَسْرَحُونَ إِلَى الْجَنَّةِ، ثُمَّ يُنَادِي ثَانِيَةً: سَيَعْلَمُونَ الْيَوْمَ مَنْ أَصْحَابُ الْكَرَمِ، لِيَقُمِ الَّذِينَ: تَتَجَافَى جُنُوبُهُمْ عَنِ الْمَضَاجِعِ الْآيَةَ، فَيَقُومُونَ فَيَسْرَحُونَ إِلَى الْجَنَّةِ، ثُمَّ يُنَادِي ثَالِثَةً: لِيَقُمِ الَّذِينَ رِجَالٌ لا تُلْهِيهِمْ تِجَارَةٌ وَلا بَيْعٌ عَنْ ذِكْرِ اللهِ الْآيَةَ، فَيَقُومُونَ فَيَسْرَحُونَ إِلَى الْجَنَّةِ، فَإِذَا أَخَذَ مِنْ هَؤُلَاءِ ثَلَاثَةً، خَرَجَ عُنُقٌ مِنَ النَّارِ، فَأَشْرَفَ عَلَى الْخَلَائِقِ، لَهُ عَيْنَانِ تُبْصِرَانِ، وَلِسَانٌ فَصِيحٌ، فَيَقُولُ: إِنِّي وُكِّلْتُ بِثَلَاثَةٍ، إِنِّي وُكِّلْتُ بِكُلِّ جَبَّارٍ عَنِيدٍ، فَيَلْتَقِطُهُمْ مِنَ الصُّفُوفِ لَقْطَ الطَّيْرِ حَبَّ السُّمْسُمِ، فَيَجْلِسُ بِهِمْ فِي جَهَنَّمَ، ثُمَّ يَخْرُجُ ثَانِيَةً، فَيَقُولُ: إِنِّي وُكِّلْتُ بِمَنْ آذَى اللهَ وَرَسُولَهُ، ( قَالَ ) فَيَلْتَقِطُهُمْ مِنَ الصُّفُوفِ لَقْطَ الطَّيْرِ حَبَّ السُّمْسُمِ، فَيَجْلِسُ بِهِمْ فِي جَهَنَّمَ، ثُمَّ يَخْرُجُ ثَالِثَةً، ( أَحْسِبُهُ قَالَ ): فَيَقُولُ: إِنِّي وُكِّلْتُ بِأَصْحَابِ التَّصَاوِيرِ، فَيَلْتَقِطُهُمْ مِنَ الصُّفُوفِ لَقْطَ الطَّيْرِ حَبَّ السُّمْسُمِ، فَيَجْلِسُ بِهِمْ فِي جَهَنَّمَ، فَإِذَا أَخَذَ مِنْ هَؤُلَاءِ ثَلَاثَةً، وَمِنْ هَؤُلَاءِ ثَلَاثَةً، نُشِرَتِ الصُّحُفُ وَوُضِعَتِ الْمَوَازِينُ، وَدُعِيَ الْخَلَائِقُ لِلْحِسَابِ. هَذَا مَوْقُوفٌ، إِسْنَادُهُ حَسَنٌ.

✧ When the Day of Resurrection comes, the earth will be stretched out like leather is stretched, in its vastness such and such, and all creatures will be on one plain, their jinn and their humans. When that happens, this lowest heaven will be emptied of its inhabitants, and they will be scattered upon the face of the earth. The inhabitants of the heaven alone will be more than all the inhabitants of the earth, both jinn and humans, by double. When they are scattered upon the face of the earth, the inhabitants of the earth will be terrified of them and say: "Is our Lord among you?" They will be terrified by their words and say: "Glory be to our Lord, He is not among us, and He is coming." Then the inhabitants of the second heaven will be emptied, and the inhabitants of the second heaven alone will be more than the inhabitants of the lowest heaven and all the inhabitants of the earth, by double. When they are scattered upon the face of the earth, the inhabitants of the earth will be terrified of them and say: "Is our Lord among you?" They will be terrified by their words and say: "Glory be to our Lord, He is not among us, and He is coming." Then all the heavens will be emptied, one after another, and each heaven will be multiplied over the heaven below it and all the inhabitants of the earth. Whenever they are scattered upon the face of the earth, the inhabitants of the earth will be terrified of them and say to them the like of that, and they will reply to them the like of that. Then the inhabitants of the seventh heaven will be emptied, and the inhabitants of the seventh heaven are more numerous than the inhabitants of the six heavens and all the inhabitants of the earth, by double. Then Allah, Blessed and Exalted, will come among them, and the nations will be kneeling in rows. A caller will call: "Today you will know who are the people of honor. Let the frequent praisers of their Lord in every state stand." They will depart to Paradise. Then he will call a second time: "Today they will know who are the people of honor. Let those stand whose sides forsake their beds [Surah al-Sajdah:16]." They will stand and depart to Paradise. Then he will call a third time: "Let those stand whom neither trade nor sale diverts from the remembrance of Allah [Surah al-Nur:37]." They will stand and depart to Paradise. When He has taken these three groups, a neck will emerge from the Fire and look over the creatures. It has two seeing eyes and an eloquent tongue, and it will say: "I have been appointed over three: I have been appointed over every arrogant tyrant." It will snatch them from the rows as a bird snatches sesame seeds, and it will settle them in Hell. Then it will emerge a second time and say: "I have been appointed over those who harmed Allah and His Messenger." It will snatch them from the rows as a bird snatches sesame seeds, and it will settle them in Hell. Then it will emerge a third time—I think he said—and say: "I have been appointed over the makers of images." It will snatch them from the rows as a bird snatches sesame seeds, and it will settle them in Hell. When it has taken three from these and three from those, the records will be spread out, the scales will be set up, and the creatures will be summoned to the reckoning. This is mawquf, and its chain is hasan.
