✧ Conditions of the imams

[وَقَالَ] أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ: حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو أُسَامَةَ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ يَزِيدَ بْنِ جَابِرٍ قَالَ: سَمِعْتُ الْقَاسِمَ بْنَ مُخَيْمِرَةَ يَقُولُ:

إِنَّ سَلْمَانَ ؓ قَدَّمَهُ قَوْمُهُ لِيُصَلِّيَ بِهِمْ فَأَبَى حَتَّى دَفَعُوهُ، فَلَمَّا صَلَّى بِهِمْ قَالَ: ( أَكُلُّكُمْ رَاضٍ ؟ ) قَالُوا: نَعَمْ. قَالَ: الْحَمْدُ لِلهِ، إِنِّي سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ: « ثَلَاثَةٌ لَا تُقْبَلُ لَهُمْ صَلَاةٌ: الْمَرْأَةُ تَخْرُجُ مِنْ بَيْتِهَا بِغَيْرِ إِذْنِ زَوْجِهَا، وَالْعَبْدُ الْآبِقُ، وَالرَّجُلُ يَؤُمُّ الْقَوْمَ وَهُمْ لَهُ كَارِهُونَ

Translation

✧ Salmān ؓ was put forward by his people to lead them in prayer, but he refused until they compelled him. When he led them, he said: “Are all of you satisfied?” They said: “Yes.” He said: “Praise be to God. I heard the Messenger of God ﷺ say: ‘Three people’s prayer is not accepted: a woman who leaves her house without her husband’s permission; a runaway slave; and a man who leads people in prayer while they dislike him.’”
