✧ The Battle of the Camel

وَقَالَ الْحَارِثُ: حَدَّثَنَا قُرَادٌ أَبُو نُوحٍ، عَنْ شُعْبَةَ، عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عُبَيْدِ اللهِ أَبِي عَوْنٍ الثَّقَفِيِّ، عَنْ أَبِي الضُّحَى، عَنْ سُلَيْمَانَ بْنِ صُرَدٍ قَالَ:

جِئْتُ إِلَى الْحَسَنِ ؓ فَقُلْتُ: اعْذُرْنِي عِنْدَ أَمِيرِ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ حَيْثُ لَمْ أَحْضُرِ الْوَقْعَةَ، فَقَالَ الْحَسَنُ ؓ: مَا تَصْنَعُ بِهَذَا، لَقَدْ رَأَيْتُهُ يَلُوذُ بِي، وَهُوَ يَقُولُ: يَا حَسَنُ، لَيْتَنِي مُتُّ قَبْلَ هَذَا بِعِشْرِينَ سَنَةً

✧ I came to al-Hasan ؓ and said: Excuse me before the Commander of the Faithful for not being present at the battle. Al-Hasan ؓ said: What need do you have of this? I saw him taking refuge with me and saying: 'O Hasan, would that I had died twenty years before this.'
