✧ He and his father entered upon Anas b. Malik ؓ during the time of Umar b. Abd al-Aziz ؓ, when he was governor, and he prayed a light prayer as if it were the prayer of a traveler or close to it. When he said the salam, he said: "May Allah have mercy on you, did you consider this prayer; is it the obligatory prayer or something you offered voluntarily?" He said: "It is the obligatory prayer, and it is indeed the prayer of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ; I did not miss anything from it except something I forgot. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to say: 'Do not be harsh on yourselves, lest harshness be imposed on you. For a people were harsh on themselves, so harshness was imposed on them. Those are their remnants in the monasteries and hermitages and monasticism which they innovated; We did not prescribe it for them.'"
