machine translationMy father said: This is a mistake. We used to think it was strange (gharīb), then its defect became clear to us. I said: What is its defect? He said: Al-ʿAbbās b. Yazīd al-ʿAbdī narrated to us, and you as well, from Ibn ʿUyaynah, from Ibn ʿAjlān, who said: Muḥammad b. ʿAmr narrated to us, from Mulayḥ b. ʿAbdullāh, from Abū Hurayrah, as mawqūf. Ibn ʿUyaynah said: Muḥammad b. ʿAmr came to us, so I went to him and asked him, and he narrated to me from Mulayḥ b. ʿAbdullāh, from Abū Hurayrah, as mawqūf. And Abū Zurʿah said: This is a mistake; it is only from Ibn ʿAjlān, from Muḥammad b. ʿAmr, from Mulayḥ, from Abū Hurayrah, as mawqūf. My father said: Had Ibn ʿAjlān had it from his father, from Abū Hurayrah, he would not have narrated from Muḥammad b. ʿAmr, from Mulayḥ, from Abū Hurayrah.
