✧ Quraysh set a reward of forty uqiyyah for the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and Abu Bakr. He said: While I was sitting, a man came to me and said: "The two men for whom Quraysh has set what it has set are near you in such-and-such a place." He said: I went to my horse, which was in the pasture, and startled it. Then I took my spear and mounted. He said: I began to drag the spear for fear that the people of the water would share in the reward with me. He said: When I saw them, Abu Bakr ؓ said: "A seeker is seeking us." The Prophet ﷺ turned and said: "O Allah, suffice me against him as You will." He said: My horse became stuck in the mud, though I was on firm ground, and I fell upon a stone and was overturned. I said: "Call upon the One who did what I see to release it"—and he made a covenant with him that he would never disobey Him again. He said: He ﷺ supplicated for him, and the horse was freed. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to him: "Will you give it to me?" He said: "Yes." He said: "Then divert the people from us here," and he took the coastal route near the sea. He said: So I was for them a seeker at the beginning of the day and a guard at the end of the day. He ﷺ said: "When we settle in Madinah, if you wish to come to us, then come." When the Prophet ﷺ arrived in Madinah and was victorious over the people of Badr and Uhud, and those around him embraced Islam, Suraqah said: "It reached me that he ﷺ intended to send Khalid b. al-Walid ؓ to Banu Mudlij, so I came to him..."
