وَقَالَ الْحَارِثُ: حَدَّثَنَا دَاوُدُ بْنُ الْمُحَبَّرِ، حَدَّثَنَا مَيْسَرَةُ بْنُ عَبْدِ رَبِّهِ، عَنْ أَبِي عَائِشَةَ السَّعْدِيِّ، عَنْ يَزِيدَ بْنِ عُمَرَ، عَنْ أَبِي سَلَمَةَ بْنِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ وَابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ ؓ، قَالَ:

خَطَبَنَا رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ، أَمَرَ بِلَالًا فَنَادَى بِالصَّلَاةِ جَامِعَةً قَبْلَ أَنْ يَتَكَلَّمَ، فَاجْتَمَعَ إِلَيْهِ النَّاسُ، فَارْتَقَى الْمِنْبَرَ، فَقَالَ: يَا أَيُّهَا النَّاسُ، ادْنُوا وَأَوْسِعُوا لِمَنْ خَلْفَكُمْ، ثَلَاثَ مَرَّاتٍ، فَدَنَا النَّاسُ، وَانْضَمَّ بَعْضُهُمْ إِلَى بَعْضٍ، وَالْتَفَتُوا فَلَمْ يَرَوْا أَحَدًا، ثُمَّ قَالَ ﷺ: ادْنُوا وَأَوْسِعُوا لِمَنْ خَلْفَكُمْ، فَدَنَا النَّاسُ، وَانْضَمَّ بَعْضُهُمْ إِلَى بَعْضٍ، وَالْتَفَتُوا فَلَمْ يَرَوْا أَحَدًا، فَقَالَ ﷺ ذَلِكَ فِي الثَّالِثَةِ، فَلَمْ يَرَوْا أَحَدًا، فَقَامَ رَجُلٌ فَقَالَ: لِمَنْ نُوسِعُ ؟ لِلْمَلَائِكَةِ ؟ قَالَ ﷺ: لَا، إِنَّهُمْ إِذَا كَانُوا مَعَكَ لَمْ يَكُونُوا بَيْنَ أَيْدِيكُمْ وَلَا خَلْفَكُمْ، وَلَكِنْ عَنْ يَمِينِكُمْ وَعَنْ شِمَالِكُمْ فَقَالَ: وَلَمْ يَكُونُوا بَيْنَ أَيْدِينَا وَلَا خَلْفَنَا، أَهُمْ أَفْضَلُ مِنَّا ؟ قَالَ ﷺ: بَلْ أَنْتُمْ أَفْضَلُ مِنَ الْمَلَائِكَةِ، اجْلِسْ - فَجَلَسَ

✧ The Messenger of God ﷺ addressed us. He ordered Bilal to call out that prayer was to be held in congregation before he spoke. The people gathered to him, and he ascended the pulpit and said: O people, come forward and make room for those behind you - three times. The people came forward and pressed together, and they turned around but saw no one. Then he ﷺ said: Come forward and make room for those behind you. The people came forward and pressed together, and they turned around but saw no one. He ﷺ said that a third time, and they saw no one. A man stood up and said: For whom should we make room? For the angels? He ﷺ said: No, when they are with you, they are not in front of you or behind you, but on your right and on your left. He said: And they are not in front of us or behind us - are they better than us? He ﷺ said: Rather you are better than the angels. Sit down - so he sat down.
