✧ While the Messenger of Allah ﷺ was talking to his companions, he said: "A rider from the best people of the East will appear to you from this mountain pass." Umar ibn al-Khattab ؓ stood up and went towards that direction. He met thirteen riders, welcomed them, and brought them close. He said: "Who are the people?" They said: "A people from Abd al-Qays." He said: "What brought you to these lands? Trade?" They said: "No." He said: "Would you sell these swords of yours?" They said: "No." He said: "Perhaps you have come seeking this man?" They said: "Yes." So he walked with them, talking to them, until he saw the Prophet ﷺ. He said to them: "This is your companion whom you seek." The people threw themselves off their saddles. Some of them ran quickly, some of them jogged, and some of them walked, until they came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. They took his hand and kissed it, and sat with him. Al-Ashajj remained—he was the youngest of the people. He made the camels kneel, hobbled them, and gathered the people's belongings. Then he came walking calmly until he reached the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, took his hand and kissed it. The Prophet ﷺ said: "You have two qualities that Allah Almighty and His Messenger love." He said: "What are they, O Messenger of Allah?" He ﷺ said: "Deliberateness and calmness." He said: "Is it a natural disposition I was created with, or something I have acquired?" He ﷺ said: "Rather, it is natural." He said: "Praise be to Allah who created me with what Allah and His Messenger love." Then the people turned to some dates and ate them.
