✧ I used to hear about Abu Dharr ؓ, and there was no one I was more eager to see and meet than him. Uthman ؓ wrote to him to come to him, so Muawiyah wrote to him: "If you have any need of Syria and its people, then leave, Abu Dharr, for the people have become burdensome to me." Abu Dharr ؓ arrived, and the people cried out: "This is Abu Dharr, this is Abu Dharr!" I went out to look at him among those who were looking. He entered the mosque while Uthman ؓ was in it. He went to a pillar and prayed two rak'ahs near it, then came to Uthman ؓ and greeted him. He did not revile him or rebuke him. Uthman ؓ said: "Where were you on the day when the milch-camels of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ were raided?" He said: "I was at the well, drawing water." Then Abu Dharr ؓ raised his voice and recited: "And those who hoard gold and silver and do not spend them..." up to "...what you used to hoard." Then Uthman ؓ ordered him to go out to al-Rabadhah.
