✧ I prayed beside a man and began supplicating while holding a pebble. He turned to me and said: O Abu 'Abd Allah, 'Abd Allah b. Mas'ud ؓ used to say: If you ask your Lord, do not hold a stone in your hand. When I heard him mention 'Abd Allah, I felt at ease with him and introduced myself. He began to tell me: Abu Bakr ؓ asked permission to enter upon the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, and he granted him permission and gave him glad tidings of Paradise. Then 'Umar ؓ came, and he granted him permission and gave him glad tidings of Paradise. Then 'Abd Allah b. Mas'ud ؓ came, and he granted him permission and gave him glad tidings. Then another man came, whom I could name if I wished, and he granted him permission and gave him glad tidings of Paradise. Hudhayfa ؓ was sitting, and he said: Where am I, O Messenger of Allah? He ﷺ said: You are in good, or heading toward good.
