✧ The Virtue of Abd al-Rahman b. Awf, ᴿᴬ

وَقَالَ أَحْمَدُ بْنُ مَنِيعٍ: حَدَّثَنَا يَزِيدُ بْنُ هَارُونَ، أَنَا أَبُو الْمُعَلَّى الْجَزَرِيُّ، عَنْ مَيْمُونِ بْنِ مِهْرَانَ، عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ ؓ قَالَ:

إِنَّ عَبْدَ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنَ عَوْفٍ ؓ قَالَ لِأَصْحَابِ الشُّورَى: هَلْ لَكُمْ أَنْ أَخْتَارَ لَكُمْ وَانْقَضَى مِنْهَا ؟ فَقَالَ عَلِيٌّ ؓ: نَعَمْ، أَنَا أَوَّلُ مَنْ رَضِيَ، فَإِنِّي سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ: أَنْتَ أَمِينٌ فِي أَهْلِ السَّمَاوَاتِ، أَمِينٌ فِي أَهْلِ الْأَرْضِ

Translation

✧ Abd al-Rahman ibn Awf ؓ said to the members of the consultative council: Would you like me to choose for you and be exempted from it? Ali ؓ said: Yes, I am the first to be pleased, for I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say: You are trustworthy among the inhabitants of the heavens, trustworthy among the inhabitants of the earth.
