وَقَالَ مُسَدَّدٌ: حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى، عَنْ شُعْبَةَ، عَنْ قَتَادَةَ، عَنْ جُرَيِّ بْنِ كُلَيْبٍ، قَالَ:
رَأَيْتُ عَلِيًّا ؓ يَأْمُرُ بِشَيْءٍ، وَعُثْمَانَ ؓ يَنْهَى عَنْهُ، فَقُلْتُ لِعَلِيٍّ ؓ: إِنَّ بَيْنَكُمَا لَشَرًّا. قَالَ ؓ: مَا بَيْنَنَا إِلَّا خَيْرٌ، وَلَكِنْ خَيْرُنَا أَتْبَعُنَا لِهَذَا الدِّينِ

✧ I saw Ali ؓ commanding something and Uthman ؓ forbidding it, so I said to Ali ؓ: "There is surely evil between you two." He ؓ said: "Between us is nothing but good, but the best of us is the one who most follows this religion."
