✧ Al-Qasim b. Muhammad was a truthful and silent man. When Umar b. Abd al-Aziz ؓ became caliph, he said: 'Today the virgin will speak from her chamber.' I heard my aunt A'ishah, the wife of the Prophet ﷺ ؓ, say: 'When the Prophet ﷺ passed away, the Arabs apostatized altogether, the people craned their necks (in anticipation), and the Companions of Muhammad ﷺ became like goats scattered in a thicket. By Allah, they did not differ over a single word except that my father flew with its understanding.' Then she mentioned Umar ؓ and said: 'Whoever saw Umar ؓ knew that he was created as a burden for Islam.' Then she said ؓ: 'He was, by Allah, skilled and unmatched, a man of his own kind. He had prepared for affairs their counterparts. I have not seen the like of his character ؓ, until you count seven qualities which I do not remember.'
