قَالَ إِسْحَاقُ: أَخْبَرَنَا جَرِيرٌ، عَنْ مُغِيرَةَ، قَالَ:

أَتَيْتُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ النَّخَعِيَّ، فَقُلْتُ: إِنَّ رَجُلًا خَاصَمَنِي - يُقَالُ لَهُ سَعْدٌ الْعَنَزِيُّ، فَقَالَ إِبْرَاهِيمُ: لَيْسَ بِالْعَنَزِيِّ، وَلَكِنَّهُ الزُّبَيْدِيُّ، فِي قَوْلِهِ تَعَالَى: قَالَتِ الأَعْرَابُ آمَنَّا قُلْ لَمْ تُؤْمِنُوا وَلَكِنْ قُولُوا أَسْلَمْنَا فَقَالَ: هُوَ الِاسْتِسْلَامُ، فَقَالَ إِبْرَاهِيمُ: لَا، بَلْ هُوَ الْإِسْلَامُ

Translation

✧ I came to Ibrahim al-Nakha'i and said: A man has disputed with me, called Sa'd al-'Anazi. Ibrahim said: He is not al-'Anazi, but rather al-Zubaydi. Concerning the saying of the Exalted: 'The bedouins say, "We believe." Say, "You have not believed, but say, 'We have submitted'" (49:14), he said: It is submission. Ibrahim said: No, rather it is Islam.
