✧ When 'Abd Allah b. Salam ؓ wanted to embrace Islam, he entered upon the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and said, 'I bear witness that you are the Messenger of Allah, sent with guidance and the religion of truth, and that the Jews find you described in the Torah among them.' Then he said to him, 'Send for a group of Jews—so-and-so and so-and-so'—and he named them for him—'and hide me in a room. Ask them about me and my father, for they will inform you. Then I will come out to them and bear witness that you are the Messenger of Allah, sent with guidance and the religion of truth, perhaps they will become Muslims.' So the Prophet ﷺ did that: he hid him in his house, sent for the group he had commanded, and called them. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to them, 'What is 'Abd Allah b. Salam among you? And what was his father?' They said, 'Our master and the son of our master, our scholar and the son of our scholar.' The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, 'Do you think if he becomes Muslim you will become Muslims?' They said, 'He will not become Muslim.' He ﷺ said, 'What do you think if he becomes Muslim?' They said, 'He will not become Muslim.' He said, 'What do you think if he becomes Muslim?' They said, 'He will never become Muslim.' Then the Messenger of Allah ﷺ called him, and he came out to them and said, 'I bear witness that you are the Messenger of Allah, sent with guidance and the religion of truth, and they know about you what I know.' The Jews said to 'Abd Allah ؓ, 'We never feared this from you, O 'Abd Allah.' He said, 'So they left him, and Allah, Mighty and Majestic, revealed concerning that: "Say: I am not an innovation among the messengers, nor do I know what will be done with me or with you. I follow only what is revealed to me, and I am only a clear warner." Say, "Have you considered: if it is from Allah and you disbelieve in it, and a witness from the Children of Israel bears witness to its like and believes…" (Q. 46:9-10).'
