✧ Umar b. al-Khattab ؓ passed by a man reciting: 'And the first forerunners among the Muhajirin and the Ansar' until he completed the verse. Umar ؓ said: 'Stop, stop. Who taught you this surah?' The man said: 'Ubayy b. Ka'b ؓ taught it to me.' Umar ؓ said: 'Do not leave me until we go to him.' He came and asked permission while Ubayy was reclining. He granted him permission, and Umar said: 'This man claims that you taught him such-and-such a verse,' and he recited it to him. Ubayy said: 'He is truthful.' Umar ؓ said to Ubayy: 'Did you receive it directly from the mouth of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ?' He said: 'Yes.' Umar ؓ repeated three times, and each time Ubayy ؓ said: 'Yes.' Then he said: 'I bear witness that Allah Almighty revealed it to Muhammad ﷺ. Jibril (peace and blessings be upon him) brought it from Allah, Blessed and Exalted. He did not consult al-Khattab nor his son about it.' Umar ؓ went out saying: 'Allahu Akbar, Allahu Akbar.'
