✧ The way of life of the predecessors

وَقَالَ أَحْمَدُ بْنُ مَنِيعٍ: حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ عُلَيَّةَ، عَنْ أَيُّوبَ، عَنِ الْحَسَنِ قَالَ: قَالَ أَبُو بَرْزَةَ ؓ:

كَانَتِ الْعَرَبُ تَقُولُ: « مَنْ أَكَلَ الْخُبْزَ سَمِنَ »، فَلَمَّا افْتَتَحْنَا خَيْبَرَ أَجْهَضْنَاهُمْ عَنْ خُبْزَةٍ لَهُمْ، فَقَعَدْتُ عَلَيْهَا فَأَكَلْتُ حَتَّى شَبِعْتُ فَجَعَلْتُ أَنْظُرُ فِي عِطْفَيَّ هَلْ سَمِنْتُ ؟

Translation

✧ The Arabs used to say: "Whoever eats bread becomes fat." When we conquered Khaybar, we drove them away from a loaf of bread they had. I sat upon it and ate until I was full, then I began looking at my shoulders to see if I had become fat.
