✧ The angels of the night and the angels of the day gather at the ‘Asr prayer and the Fajr prayer. The angels of the day ascend at the ‘Asr prayer, and the angels of the night remain among you, and the angels of the night ascend at the Fajr prayer, and the angels of the day remain among you. They say: “We came to them while they were praying, and we left them while they were praying. We left among them a man whom no good or affliction ever befell except that he knew it was from You.” So He says: “Test My servant,” or “Increase My servant.” Sufyan said: I do not know which of the two he began with. He said: So they test him. Then He says: “Test him,” and he is tested. Then He says: “Test him,” while He is most knowing. Then they say: “The affliction has reached its limit, O Lord.” He says: “Increase him,” and he is increased. Then He says: “Increase him,” and he is increased. Then He says: “Increase him,” and he is increased. Then He says: “Increase him,” while He is most knowing. Then they say: “The increase has reached its limit, O Lord.” He says: “How did you leave My servant in affliction, and how did you see him in ease?” They say: “O Lord, the most patient of servants and the most grateful.” He says: “Record My servant among those who will not be replaced or changed until he meets Me.”
