وَقَالَ ابْنُ أَبِي عُمَرَ: حَدَّثَنَا بِشْرُ بْنُ السَّرِيِّ، ثَنَا الثَّوْرِيُّ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ عَابِسٍ، حَدَّثَنِي أَبُو إِيَاسٍ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ مَسْعُودٍ ؓ

أَنَّهُ كَانَ يَقُولُ فِي خُطْبَتِهِ: إِنَّ أَصْدَقَ الْحَدِيثِ كَلَامُ اللهِ، وَأَوْثَقَ الْعُرَى كَلِمَةُ التَّقْوَى، وَخَيْرَ الْمِلَلِ مِلَّةُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ عَلَيْهِ السَّلَامُ، وَأَحْسَنَ الْقَصَصِ هَذَا الْقُرْآنُ، وَأَحْسَنَ السُّنَنِ سُنَّةُ مُحَمَّدٍ ﷺ، وَأَشْرَفَ الْحَدِيثِ ذِكْرُ اللهِ تَعَالَى، وَخَيْرَ الْأُمُورِ عَزَائِمُهَا، وَشَرَّ الْأُمُورِ مُحْدَثَاتُهَا، وَأَحْسَنَ الْهَدْيِ هَدْيُ الْأَنْبِيَاءِ عَلَيْهِمُ الصَّلَاةُ وَالسَّلَامُ، وَأَشْرَفَ الْمَوْتِ قَتْلُ الشُّهَدَاءِ، وَأَغْيَرَ الضَّلَالَةِ الضَّلَالَةُ بَعْدَ الْهُدَى، وَخَيْرَ الْعَمَلِ أَوِ الْعِلْمِ - شَكَّ بِشْرٌ - مَا نَفَعَ، وَخَيْرَ الْهُدَى مَا اتُّبِعَ، وَشَرَّ الْعَمَى عَمَى الْقَلْبِ، وَالْيَدُ الْعُلْيَا خَيْرٌ مِنَ الْيَدِ السُّفْلَى، وَمَا قَلَّ وَكَفَى خَيْرٌ مِمَّا كَثُرَ وَأَلْهَى، وَنَفْسٌ تُنْجِيهَا خَيْرٌ مِنْ إِمَارَةٍ لَا تُحْصِيهَا، وَشَرُّ الْغِيلَةِ الْغِيلَةُ عِنْدَ حَضْرَةِ الْمَوْتِ، وَشَرُّ النَّدَامَةِ نَدَامَةُ يَوْمِ الْقِيَامَةِ، وَمِنَ النَّاسِ مَنْ لَا يَأْتِي الْجُمُعَةَ أَوِ الصَّلَاةَ إِلَّا دُبُرًا، وَلَا يَذْكُرُ اللهَ تَعَالَى إِلَّا هُجْرًا، وَأَعْظَمُ الْخَطَايَا اللِّسَانُ الْكَذُوبُ، وَخَيْرُ الْغِنَى غِنَى النَّفْسِ، وَخَيْرُ الزَّادِ التَّقْوَى، وَرَأْسُ الْحِكْمَةِ مَخَافَةُ اللهِ تَعَالَى، وَخَيْرُ مَا أُلْقِيَ فِي الْقَلْبِ الْيَقِينُ، وَالرَّيْبُ مِنَ الْكُفْرِ، وَالنَّوْحُ مِنْ عَمَلِ الْجَاهِلِيَّةِ، وَالْغُلُولُ مِنْ جَمْرِ جَهَنَّمَ، وَالْكَنْزُ كَيٌّ مِنَ النَّارِ، وَالشِّعْرُ مَزَامِيرُ إِبْلِيسَ، وَالْخَمْرُ جِمَاعُ الْإِثْمِ، وَالنِّسَاءُ حَبَائِلُ الشَّيْطَانِ، وَالشَّبَابُ شُعْبَةٌ مِنَ الْجُنُونِ، وَشَرُّ الْمَكَاسِبِ مَكَاسِبُ الرِّبَا، وَشَرُّ الْمَآكِلِ مَأْكَلُ مَالِ الْيَتَامَى، وَالسَّعِيدُ مَنْ وُعِظَ بِغَيْرِهِ، وَالشَّقِيُّ مَنْ شَقِيَ فِي بَطْنِ أُمِّهِ، وَإِنَّمَا يَكْفِي أَحَدَكُمْ مَا قَنَعَتْ بِهِ نَفْسُهُ، وَإِنَّمَا يَصِيرُ إِلَى مَوْضِعِ أَرْبَعَةِ أَذْرُعٍ، وَخَيْرُ الْأَمْرِ نَاجِزُهُ، وَأَمْلَكُ الْعَمَلِ خَوَاتِمُهُ، وَشَرُّ الرَّوَايَا رَوَايَا الْكَذِبِ، وَكُلُّ مَا هُوَ آتٍ قَرِيبٌ، وَسِبَابُ الْمُسْلِمِ فُسُوقٌ، وَقِتَالُهُ كُفْرٌ، وَأَكْلُ لَحْمِهِ مِنْ مَعَاصِي اللهِ تَعَالَى، وَلَحُرْمَةُ مَالِهِ كَحُرْمَةِ دَمِهِ، وَمَنْ يَتَأَلَّ عَلَى اللهِ تَعَالَى يُكَذِّبْهُ، وَمَنْ يَغْفِرْ يَغْفِرُ اللهُ لَهُ، وَمَنْ يَعْفُ يَعْفُ اللهُ عَنْهُ، وَمَنْ يَكْظِمِ الْغَيْظَ يَأْجُرْهُ اللهُ تَعَالَى، وَمَنْ يَصْبِرْ عَلَى الرَّزَايَا يُعِنْهُ اللهُ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ، وَمَنْ يَعْرِفِ الْبَلَاءَ يَصْبِرْ عَلَيْهِ، وَمَنْ لَا يَعْرِفْهُ يُنْكِرْهُ، وَمَنْ يُنْكِرْهُ يُضَيِّعْهُ اللهُ تَبَارَكَ وَتَعَالَى، وَمَنْ يَتَّبِعِ السُّمْعَةَ يُسَمِّعِ اللهُ بِهِ، وَمَنْ يَنْوِ الدُّنْيَا تُعْجِزْهُ، وَمَنْ يُطِعِ الشَّيْطَانَ يَعْصِ اللهَ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ، وَمَنْ يَعْصِ اللهَ تَعَالَى يُعَذِّبْهُ

✧ He used to say in his sermon: 'The truest speech is the Word of God; the firmest handhold is the word of piety; the best religion is the religion of Abraham ﷺ ; the best narrative is this Qur'an; the best way is the way of Muhammad ﷺ; the noblest speech is the remembrance of God Almighty; the best of matters are their resolutions; the worst of matters are their innovations; the best guidance is the guidance of the prophets (prayers and peace be upon them); the noblest death is the killing of martyrs; the worst misguidance is misguidance after guidance; the best deed or knowledge—Bishr was uncertain—is what benefits; the best guidance is what is followed; the worst blindness is blindness of the heart; the upper hand is better than the lower hand; little that suffices is better than much that distracts; a soul you save is better than an authority you cannot manage; the worst treachery is treachery at the time of death; the worst regret is the regret of the Day of Resurrection; among people are those who do not come to Friday prayer or the prayer except lagging behind, and do not remember God Almighty except in vain talk; the greatest sin is the lying tongue; the best wealth is wealth of the soul; the best provision is piety; the summit of wisdom is fear of God Almighty; the best thing cast into the heart is certainty; doubt is from unbelief; wailing is from the deeds of the Age of Ignorance; embezzlement is from the coals of Hell; hoarding is a branding from the Fire; poetry is the flutes of Iblis; wine is the mother of all sin; women are the snares of Satan; youth is a branch of madness; the worst earnings are the earnings of usury; the worst food is consuming the wealth of orphans; the fortunate is the one who takes heed from others; the wretched is the one who was wretched in his mother's womb; each of you is sufficed by what his soul is content with; he will end up in a space of four cubits; the best of affairs is what is immediate; the most certain part of a deed is its ending; the worst vessels are the vessels of falsehood; everything that is coming is near; insulting a Muslim is wickedness and fighting him is unbelief; eating his flesh is among the sins against God Almighty; the sanctity of his wealth is like the sanctity of his blood; whoever swears an oath by God Almighty, He will prove him false; whoever forgives, God will forgive him; whoever pardons, God will pardon him; whoever suppresses anger, God Almighty will reward him; whoever bears calamities patiently, God Mighty and Majestic will help him; whoever recognizes affliction will be patient with it; whoever does not recognize it will deny it; whoever denies it, God Blessed and Exalted will let him go to waste; whoever seeks reputation, God will make him heard of; whoever intends the world, it will overpower him; whoever obeys Satan disobeys God Mighty and Majestic; whoever disobeys God Almighty, He will punish him.'
