✧ Abu Sayyad narrated to him that he was with Maslamah one day at midday when a man on his mount entered upon him. He asked permission to see Maslamah and said, 'O Maslamah!' Maslamah ordered a slave girl of his, saying, 'Look who this is.' She said, 'An old man who has arrived on his mount.' He said, 'Call Maslamah for me.' I said, 'Should I call the emir for you?' He said, 'Return to him and ask him who you are.' He said, 'I am so-and-so.' Maslamah stood up quickly, and the man was one of the Companions ؓ, and said, 'I heard a hadith from the Prophet ﷺ, and the closest of the people to him that day was 'Uqbah b. 'Amir ؓ, so I wanted to ask him about it to be certain. Come with me to him, O Maslamah.' He said, 'Rather, I will send for him and he will come to me.' He said, 'Your authority has pleased you. Order Abu Sayyad to go with me to 'Uqbah.' When 'Uqbah ؓ saw him, he welcomed him and took his hand. The man said, 'I heard the Messenger of God ﷺ say...' and he mentioned the hadith.
