✧ Prohibition of Writing Other Than the Quran

وَقَالَ أَبُو بَكْرٍ: حَدَّثَنَا وَكِيعٌ، عَنْ طَلْحَةَ بْنِ يَحْيَى، عَنْ أَبِي بُرْدَةَ، قَالَ:

كَتَبْتُ عَنْ أَبِي كِتَابًا، فَقَالَ أَبِي: لَوْلَا أَنَّ فِيهِ آيَةً مِنْ كِتَابِ اللهِ تَعَالَى لَأَحْرَقْتُهُ، ثُمَّ دَعَا بِمِرْكَنٍ أَوْ إِجَّانَةِ نَفْسُهُ، ثُمَّ قَالَ: عَنِّي عَنِّي، مَا سَمِعْتَ مِنِّي فَإِنِّي لَمْ أَكْتُبْ عَنْ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ كِتَابًا، فَقَالَ: كِدْتَ أَنْ تُهْلِكَ أَبَاكَ

Translation

✧ I wrote a book from my father, and my father said: "Were it not that it contains a verse from the Book of God Almighty, I would have burned it." Then he called for a washing tub or a large vessel himself, then said: "Away from me, away from me. Whatever you heard from me, I did not write down any book from the Messenger of God ﷺ." He said: "You nearly destroyed your father."
