al-Matalib al-'Aliyah 3283

✧ The command to show affection to brothers

وَقَالَ أَبُو بَكْرٍ: حَدَّثَنَا حَاتِمُ بْنُ إِسْمَاعِيلَ، عَنْ عِمْرَانَ الْقَصِيرِ، أَخْبَرَنِي سَعِيدُ بْنُ سُلَيْمَانَ، عَنْ يَزِيدَ بْنِ نَعَامَةَ ؓ قَالَ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ:

إِذَا آخَى الرَّجُلُ الرَّجُلَ، فَلْيَسْأَلْهُ عَنِ اسْمِهِ، وَاسْمِ أَبِيهِ، وَمَنْ هُوَ، فَإِنَّهُ أَقْبَلُ لِلْمَوَدَّةِ

Translation

  5. Yazīd b. Naʿāmah
  6. Rasūl Allāh ﷺ

✧ When a man takes another as a brother, he should ask him his name, his father's name, and who he is, for that is more conducive to affection.
