✧ Honoring the neighbor

وَقَالَ عَبْدٌ: حَدَّثَنَا يَعْلَى - هُوَ ابْنُ عُبَيْدٍ عَنْ أَبِي بَكْرٍ - هُوَ ابْنُ مُبَشِّرٍ عَنْ جَابِرٍ ؓ قَالَ:

جَاءَ رَجُلٌ مِنَ الْعَوَالِي إِلَى رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ وَرَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ وَجِبْرِيلُ عَلَيْهِ السَّلَامُ يُصَلِّيَانِ حَيْثُ يُصَلَّى عَلَى الْجَنَائِزِ، فَلَمَّا انْصَرَفَ قَالَ الرَّجُلُ: يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ، مَنْ هَذَا الَّذِي رَأَيْتُ مَعَكَ ؟ قَالَ ﷺ: وَقَدْ رَأَيْتَهُ ؟ قَالَ: نَعَمْ، قَالَ ﷺ: لَقَدْ رَأَيْتَ خَيْرًا كَثِيرًا، هَذَا جِبْرِيلُ عَلَيْهِ السَّلَامُ، مَا زَالَ يُوصِينِي بِالْجَارِ، حَتَّى ظَنَنْتُ أَنَّهُ سَيُوَرِّثُهُ

Translation

✧ A man from al-ʿAwālī came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ while the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and Jibrīl ﷺ were praying where funeral prayers are offered. When he finished, the man said: 'O Messenger of Allah, who is this I saw with you?' He ﷺ said: 'And you saw him?' He said: 'Yes.' He ﷺ said: 'You have seen much good. This is Jibrīl ﷺ. He kept enjoining me [to be kind] to the neighbor until I thought he would make him an heir.'
