✧ Censure of Slander

وَقَالَ أَبُو يَعْلَى: حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الْأَعْلَى، حَدَّثَنَا دَاوُدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ، عَنِ ابْنِ خُثَيْمٍ، عَنْ شَهْرٍ، عَنْ أَسْمَاءَ بِنْتِ يَزِيدَ، ؓ قَالَتْ: إِنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ قَالَ:

« يَا أَيُّهَا النَّاسُ، أَلَا أُخْبِرُكُمْ بِخِيَارِكُمْ ؟ » قَالُوا: بَلَى يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ، قَالَ ﷺ: « خِيَارُكُمْ إِذَا رُؤُوا ذُكِرَ اللهُ، وَارْتَاحَتْ قُلُوبُهُمْ، أَوَلَا أُخْبِرُكُمْ بِشِرَارِكُمْ ؟ » قَالُوا: بَلَى: قَالَ ﷺ: « فَإِنَّ شِرَارَكُمُ الْمَاشُونَ بِالنَّمِيمَةِ، الْمُفْسِدُونَ بَيْنَ الْأَحِبَّةِ، الْبَاغُونَ لِلْبَرَاءِ الْعَنَتَ

✧ "O people, shall I not inform you of the best among you?" They said, "Yes, O Messenger of Allah." He ﷺ said, "The best of you are those who, when seen, Allah is remembered and their hearts are stirred. Shall I not inform you of the worst among you?" They said, "Yes." He ﷺ said, "Indeed, the worst of you are those who walk about with slander, corrupting between loved ones, and seeking hardship for the innocent."
