قَالَ أَبُو يَعْلَى: حَدَّثَنَا عُثْمَانُ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ، حَدَّثَنَا وَكِيعٌ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبِي، عَنْ شَيْخٍ يُقَالُ لَهُ: طَارِقٌ، عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ مَالِكٍ الرُّؤَاسِيِّ، قَالَ:

أَتَيْتُ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ فَقُلْتُ: يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ، ارْضَ عَنِّي، فَأَعْرَضَ ثَلَاثًا، قُلْتُ: يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ، وَاللهِ إِنَّ الرَّبَّ تَبَارَكَ وَتَعَالَى لَيُتَرَضَّى فَيَرْضَى، فَارْضَ عَنِّي، قَالَ: فَرَضِيَ عَنِّي

Translation

✧ I came to the Prophet ﷺ and said: “O Messenger of Allah, be pleased with me.” He turned away three times. I said: “O Messenger of Allah, by Allah, the Blessed and Exalted Lord is indeed appeased and then becomes pleased, so be pleased with me.” He said: “Then he became pleased with me.”
