al-Matalib al-'Aliyah 2677

✧ Prohibition of silk for men and its permissibility for women, and the permissibility of selling it to one for whom wearing it is allowed

وَقَالَ الطَّيَالِسِيُّ: " حَدَّثَنَا الْأَسْوَدُ بْنُ شَيْبَانَ، أَخْبَرَتْنِي أُمُّ الْمُغِيرَةِ، مَوْلَاةُ الْأَنْصَارِ قَالَتْ:

سَأَلْتُ عَائِشَةَ ؓ عَنِ الْحَرِيرِ يَلْبَسُهُ النِّسَاءُ قَالَتْ: كُنَّا نُكْسَى عَلَى عَهْدِ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ ثِيَابًا يُقَالُ لَهَا: السِّيَرَاءُ

Translation

✧ I asked 'A'ishah ؓ about silk that women wear. She said: "We used to be clothed during the time of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ with garments called siyara'."
