✧ The rebuke of wearing a garment and trailing it out of pride except out of necessity

حَدَّثَنَا هُشَيْمٌ ( ح ). / 2 - وَقَالَ أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ: حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ فُضَيْلٍ، كِلَاهُمَا عَنْ حُصَيْنٍ، عَنْ أَبِي الْحَجَّاجِ، عَنْ سَعِيدٍ الثَّقَفِيِّ، عَنْ رَجُلٍ مِنْ قَوْمِهِ قَالَ:

إِنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ أَبْصَرَ رَجُلًا يَجُرُّ إِزَارَهُ، فَقَالَ لَهُ: ارْفَعْ إِزَارَكَ ; فَإِنَّ اللهَ لَا يُحِبُّ الْمُسْتَكْبِرَ. قَالَ: يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ، إِنَّ بِسَاقِي حُمُوشَةً، قَالَ: ذَلِكَ أَقْبَحُ مِمَّا بِسَاقِكَ

Translation

✧ The Messenger of Allah ﷺ saw a man dragging his waist-wrapper, so he said to him: Raise your waist-wrapper, for Allah does not love the arrogant. He said: O Messenger of Allah, my shanks are thin. He said: That is uglier than what is in your shanks.
