✧ The virtue of the just ruler and the censure of the unjust

وَقَالَ أَبُو يَعْلَى: حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو خَيْثَمَةَ، ثَنَا إِسْمَاعِيلُ، عَنْ يُونُسَ، عَنِ الْحَسَنِ، عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ، [ رَفَعَهُ ] أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ [قَالَ]:

لَا يَسْتَرْعِي اللهُ تَعَالَى عَبْدًا رَعِيَّةً قَلَّتْ أَوْ كَثُرَتْ إِلَّا سَأَلَهُ عَنْهَا أَقَامَتْ فِيهِمْ إِمْرَتُهُ أَوْ ضَاعَتْ، حَتَّى يَسْأَلَهُ عَنْ أَهْلِ بَيْتِهِ خَاصَّةً

Translation

✧ Allah, the Exalted, does not make a servant a guardian over a flock, small or large, but He will ask him about it: whether he upheld his command among them or neglected it, until He asks him specifically about his own household.
