✧ Abū Bakr al-Ṣiddīq ؓ gave a sermon and said: 'By God, I am not the best of you. I was averse to this position of mine, and I wished there were among you someone who could suffice me. Do you think that I would act among you according to the Sunnah of the Messenger of God ﷺ? If so, I would not be able to establish it. The Messenger of God ﷺ was protected by revelation, and an angel was with him. But I have a devil that comes upon me. So when I become angry, avoid me, lest I affect your hair and your skin. Indeed, tend to me: if I am upright, help me; if I deviate, correct me.' Al-Ḥasan said: 'A sermon, by God, none after him gave the like of it.'
