✧ Umar ؓ wanted to appoint Bishr b. 'Asim, so he said: "I will not work for you." He said: "Why?" He said: "I heard the Messenger of God ﷺ say: 'The governor will be brought and made to stand on the bridge, and it will shake him until every limb of his shifts from its place. If he was just, he will pass on; but if he was unjust, he will fall into the Fire for seventy autumns.'" Umar ؓ entered the mosque with a changed complexion. Abu Dharr ؓ said to him: "What is the matter with you, O Commander of the Faithful?" He said: "A hadith that Bishr b. 'Asim told me." He said: "What is it?" So he told him. Abu Dharr ؓ said: "Yes, I heard it from the Messenger of God ﷺ." Umar ؓ said: "Who would desire authority after this?" Abu Dharr ؓ said: "One whose nose God Almighty has cut off and whose cheek He has cleft."
