فَيَقُولُ: مَا عَلِمْتُ مَكَانَكِ، فَتَقُولُ: أَوَ مَا عَلِمْتَ أَنَّ اللهَ تَعَالَى قَالَ: فَلا تَعْلَمُ نَفْسٌ مَا أُخْفِيَ لَهُمْ مِنْ قُرَّةِ أَعْيُنٍ، فَيَقُولُ: بَلَى وَرَبِّي، قَالَ: فَقَالَ: رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ: فَلَعَلَّهُ يَشْتَغِلُ عَنْهَا بَعْدَ ذَلِكَ عَامًا، لَا يَشْغَلُهُ إِلَّا مَا هُوَ فِيهِ مِنَ النِّعْمَةِ وَاللَّذَّةِ، فَإِذَا دَخَلَ أَهْلُ الْجَنَّةِ رَكِبَ شُهَدَاءُ الْبَحْرِ قَرَاقِرَ مِنْ دُرٍّ فِي نَهَرٍ مِنْ نُورٍ، ✧ The martyrs are three: A man who goes out with his own self and his wealth, patient and seeking reward, not wanting to kill or be killed. If he dies or is killed, all his sins will be forgiven, and he will be saved from the punishment of the grave, and he will be secure from the greatest terror, and he will be married to the houris with wide lovely eyes, and the garment of honor will be placed upon him, and the crown of eternity will be placed upon his head. The second: He goes out with his own self and his wealth, seeking reward, wanting to kill but not be killed. If he dies or is killed, his knee will be with the knee of Abraham, the close friend of the Most Merciful, before Allah, in a seat of truth. The third: A man who goes out with his own self and his wealth, seeking reward, wanting to kill and be killed. If he dies or is killed, he will come on the Day of Resurrection brandishing his sword, placing it on his shoulder, while the people are kneeling on their knees, saying: 'Make way for us, for we have offered our blood for Allah, Mighty and Majestic.' Then the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'By the One in whose hand is my soul, if he said that to Abraham or to any prophet among the prophets, he would move aside for him from the path because of the right he sees. He will not ask Allah Almighty for anything except that He gives it to him, and he will not intercede for anyone except that his intercession is accepted, and he will be given in Paradise whatever he loves, and no prophet or anyone else will surpass him in station in Paradise. He will have in the Garden of Firdaws a thousand thousand cities of silver, a thousand thousand cities of gold, a thousand thousand cities of pearl, a thousand thousand cities of ruby, a thousand thousand cities of large pearls, a thousand thousand cities of chrysolite, and a thousand thousand cities of light. In each city among the cities are a thousand thousand palaces, in each palace a thousand thousand houses, in each house a thousand thousand couches. Each couch is a thousand years' journey in length and a thousand years' journey in width, and its height in the sky is five hundred years' journey. Upon it is a wife whose sleeve protrudes from the sides of the couch twenty miles from each corner; it has four corners. The lashes of her eyes are like the wings of eagles or like the primary feathers of eagles, and her eyebrows are like the crescent moon. Upon her are garments that grow in the gardens of Eden, watered from Tasnim, and their blossoms dazzle the eyes besides her. If she appeared to the people of this world, no sent prophet and no angel brought near would see her without being tempted by her beauty. Before each woman among them are a hundred thousand virgin female servants, besides the servants of her husband. Before each couch are chairs made of a substance other than the substance of the couch, each couch a hundred thousand cubits long. On each couch are a hundred thousand mattresses, the thickness of each mattress is as between heaven and earth, and between them is a distance of five hundred years' journey. They will enter Paradise five hundred years before the truthful and the believers. They will deflower the virgins. When he draws near to the couch, the mattresses will lower themselves for him until he mounts it, reclining wherever he wishes. He will recline with the houris with wide lovely eyes for seventy years, and one more splendid and more beautiful than her will call to him: 'O servant of Allah, is there not for us a turn with you?' He will turn to her and say: 'Who are you?' She will say: 'I am of those about whom Allah Almighty said: "And with Us is more." Then one even more splendid and more beautiful will call to him: 'O servant of Allah, do you have no need of us?' He will say: 'I did not know your place.' She will say: 'Did you not know that Allah Almighty said: "No soul knows what has been hidden for them of comfort for eyes"?' He will say: 'Yes, by my Lord.'" He said: Then the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "Perhaps he will be occupied with her after that for a year, occupied only with the bliss and pleasure he is in. When the people of Paradise enter, the martyrs of the sea will ride boats of pearls on a river of light. Their oars are rods of pearl, coral, and ruby. With them is a wind called al-Zahra' on waves like mountains. It is only shimmering light. Those waves are lighter in their eyes and sweeter to them than cold drink in a white glass to the people of this world on a summer day. Their days, which they had in the vanguard of their companions who were in this world, their boats will be advanced before their companions by a thousand thousand years and fifty thousand years. Their right flank behind them is at half the proximity of those to their companions, and their left flank is likewise. Their rearguard are those who were behind them in those boats of pearl. While they are thus traveling in that river, those waves will raise them to a throne before the Throne of the Lord of Might. While they are thus, the angels will appear to them, being multiplied in beauty, splendor, comeliness, and light over the servants of the people of Paradise, just as they are multiplied over the people of Paradise by their stations with Allah. One of them will be about to fall prostrate to some of their servants among the angels, but he will say: 'O friend of Allah, I am a servant to you. We are a hundred thousand stewards in the gardens of Eden, a hundred thousand stewards in the gardens of Firdaws, a hundred thousand stewards in the gardens of Bliss, a hundred thousand stewards in the gardens of Refuge, a hundred thousand stewards in the gardens of Eternity, a hundred thousand stewards in the gardens of the Permitted, and a hundred thousand stewards in the gardens of Peace. Each steward among them is at the gate of a city. In each city are a hundred thousand palaces, in each palace a hundred thousand houses of gold, silver, large pearls, rubies, chrysolite, pearls, and light. In them are his wives, his couches, and his servants. If the lowest of them were to host the jinn and mankind, and their like with them a thousand thousand times, the lowest palace among his palaces would be spacious enough for them, all they wish of hospitality, servants, fruits, produce, food, and drink. Each palace is sufficient with what it contains of these things for all their capacity, not needing the other palace in any of that. The lowest of them in station is the one who enters upon Allah morning and evening, and He commands all honor. He will not be occupied until he looks upon His beautiful face, Blessed and Exalted is He."
