✧ The Concession Regarding Drinking What Is Not Intoxicating

قَالَ أَبُو بَكْرٍ: حَدَّثَنَا مُلَازِمُ بْنُ عَمْرٍو، عَنْ عُجَيْبَةَ بْنِ عَبْدِ الْحَمِيدِ، عَنْ عَمِّهِ قَيْسِ بْنِ طَلْقٍ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ طَلْقِ بْنِ عَلِيٍّ ؓ، قَالَ:
جَلَسْنَا عِنْدَ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ، فَجَاءَ وَفْدُ عَبْدِ الْقَيْسِ، فَقَالَ: مَا لَكُمْ قَدِ اصْفَرَّتْ أَلْوَانُكُمْ، وَعَظُمَتْ بُطُونُكُمْ، وَظَهَرَتْ عُرُوقُكُمْ ؟ فَقَالُوا: أَتَاكَ سَيِّدُنَا فَسَأَلَكَ عَنْ شَرَابٍ كَانَ لَنَا مُوَافِقًا، فَنَهَيْتَهُ عَنْهُ، وَكُنَّا بِأَرْضٍ وَبِئَةٍ مُخِمَّةٍ، قَالَ ﷺ: فَاشْرَبُوا مَا طَابَ لَكُمْ
Translation

✧ We were sitting with the Prophet ﷺ when the delegation of 'Abd al-Qays came. He said: 'What is the matter with you that your complexions have turned yellow, your bellies have grown large, and your veins have become prominent?' They said: 'Our leader came to you and asked you about a drink that suited us, and you forbade him from it, and we are in a land that is unhealthy and feverish.' He ﷺ said: 'Then drink whatever is good for you.'
