✧ I came to Ibrahim al-Nakha'i and said: A man disputed with me - he was called Sa'id -... and he mentioned the hadith. He said: Then Ibrahim said: That came to me once, and he claimed that he said to his wife: Every wife of his is divorced three times except you. I said: Shurayh used to say: If he begins with divorce, it takes effect on her. It reached me that when he went out, he said: Is this anything but the opinion of men? Then it reached me that he became wary regarding her and left her. Jarir said: I met Sa'id al-Zubaydi and asked him about this. He said: Indeed I asked Sa'id b. Jubayr and he said: She is not divorced. Then al-Zubaydi said: Indeed, if I had been in the state I am today back then, I would not have divorced her.
