✧ What Is Permissible of Amusement

قَالَ الْحَارِثُ: حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو عُبَيْدٍ، ثَنَا أَبُو مُعَاوِيَةَ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ إِسْحَاقَ، عَنِ الشَّعْبِيِّ، يَرْفَعُهُ:
أَنَّهُ مَرَّ عَلَى أَصْحَابِ الدِّرَكْلَةِ فَقَالَ: « خُذُوا يَا بَنِي أَرْفَدَةَ ; لِيَعْلَمَ الْيَهُودُ وَالنَّصَارَى أَنَّ فِي دِينِنَا فُسْحَةً ». قَالَ: فَبَيْنَمَا هُمْ كَذَلِكَ إِذْ جَاءَ عُمَرُ ؓ، فَلَمَّا رَأَوْهُ انْذَعَرُوا
Translation

✧ He passed by the people of al-dirakla (a kind of game) and said: "Take hold, O Banu Arfida, so that the Jews and Christians may know that in our religion there is ample room (for permitted amusement)." He said: While they were thus engaged, Umar ؓ came, and when they saw him they scattered.
